Regional Clinician Network Leader

The Reproductive Health Access Project (RHAP) mobilizes, trains, and supports primary care clinicians to make reproductive health care accessible to everyone in the United States. One of our largest initiatives is the Reproductive Health Access Network, a national network of more than 4,200 primary care clinicians dedicated to expanding and protecting access to reproductive health care. We are currently recruiting a second Regional Clinical Network Leader to join our multidisciplinary Network team.

 

About the Network:

The Network connects nationally through virtual listservs and in-person meetings at national and regional conferences. Network members also organize locally/statewide through 25 state-based Clusters (chapters) and two virtual clusters that bring together Internists and APRNs. All Clusters are led by a team of dedicated clinicians. The state-based groups meet two to four times a year to engage in advocacy, clinical training, and peer support.  One of the Network’s main strategic efforts is supporting clinicians to organize within their professional medical associations, such as the American Academy of Family Physicians, in order to ensure that teaching and advocating for reproductive health care are organizational priorities. Every Cluster has at least one AAFP liaison, family physicians who are leading efforts in their states to encourage activism within the AAFP and within their Clusters. 

 

Background:

RHAP’s medical director, Linda Prine, MD, has played a critical role in developing, expanding, and supporting the Network. As part of RHAP’s work to disrupt a health care system that perpetuates inequities and ensure that RHAP is a supportive space for People of Color to thrive and lead, RHAP’s medical director is taking explicit steps to make space for other leaders to step forward by intentionally stepping back. Our aim is to move towards a model of shared clinical leadership and mentorship. We are committed to diversifying our leadership racially and geographically. 

 

Role:

As a Regional Clinical Network Leader, you will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and providing peer support to family physician RHAP American Academy of Family Physician (AAFP) liaisons from four to five states in a designated geographic region. As a Regional Clinical Network Leader, you will hold individual mentoring calls with your assigned AAFP Liaisons, and will set up and execute group support calls. You will also help plan and attend national leadership training meetings and will attend the AAFP’s Congress of Delegates and Family Medicine Experience each year. Part of this mentorship will explicitly involve recruiting and retaining People of Color in our Network in order to strengthen our work and impact.  

This is a contract position with guaranteed funding through March 31, 2021, with the possibility of extension. This is a remote position that reports to the Medical Director and works collaboratively with the National Organizer and the other Regional Clinical Network Leader.

 

Responsibilities:

You will be the primary point of contact for AAFP Liaisons from 4-5 states in a geographic region. You will:

  • Help the AAFP Liaisons develop relationships with reproductive rights and justice advocacy groups in their respective regions. 
  • Mentor and coach the AAFP Liaisons to provide educational presentations at state, regional, and national AAFP meetings, and to join committees or commissions within their state and national AAFP.
  • Recruit and mentor a diverse network of clinicians to the Network.
  • Attend as many regional Cluster and AAFP meetings as possible to promote the above. 

You will attend one RHAP Network team check-in per month and work closely with the Medical Director, Regional Clinician Network Leader, and the Organizing team.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • A current, board-certified family physician.
  • Member of the AAFP, ideally with a track record of leadership/activism within the organization, or a willingness to commit to growing in your leadership capacity.
  • Proven advocacy and networking skills at local and national levels, preferably with racial justice organizations.
  • Experience in building local clinical and leadership capacity.
  • Ability to listen with empathy and attention, while not reluctant to speak up.
  • Experience in public speaking on reproductive health topics, including abortion, and able to coach others in public speaking/presentation.
  • Ability to mentor others in giving CME talks that are engaging and interactive.

 

Work Hours & Compensation:

This is a remote consultant position. The work is estimated to be approximately 10-20 hours per month, including two hour-long meetings/check-ins. The hourly rate is $150/hour. Travel, lodging, membership fees, and registration will be covered when associated with the above tasks.
